At our clinic, during ultrasound therapy, we use a collagen-enriched gel as a contact medium between the probe and the skin. This gel is processed using advanced technology to reduce collagen to the level of nanoparticles.
The nanoparticle form of collagen is crucial, as it allows the molecules to pass through the semipermeable cell membrane. With the help of ultrasound waves, collagen penetrates the skin and subcutaneous tissue, reaches the chondrocytes, and stimulates them to produce natural collagen.
Unlike injections, which deliver collagen only to a localized area, this method activates the tissue’s natural biological potential, stimulating it to produce collagen on its own.
How Does Ultrasound Collagen Therapy Work?
Tissue healing after an injury occurs in three phases: inflammation, regeneration, and remodeling.
During the inflammatory phase, biochemical reactions are activated to prepare the tissue for the healing process. This phase lasts for about a week and enables the transition to the regeneration phase, during which ultrasound collagen therapy is applied.
During the regeneration phase, nanoparticles from the collagen preparation are delivered deep into the tissue using ultrasound, stimulating cells to produce natural collagen that forms new scar tissue. However, the collagen in newly formed scar tissue is typically arranged in a disorganized pattern and does not yet possess the structural qualities of the original, healthy tissue. Therefore, to achieve complete recovery and restore full function, the remodeling phase is essential.
In the remodeling phase, therapeutic ultrasound helps align scar tissue fibers along natural lines of tension, promotes the transformation of collagen fiber types, and allows the scar to adopt the functional properties of the original tissue.
Only after this stage can the healing process be considered complete.
When Is Ultrasound Collagen Therapy Used?
Ultrasound collagen therapy is used to treat a range of conditions involving damage or inflammation of connective tissue. It is especially effective in treating partial tears of cartilage, ligaments, and the meniscus, as it promotes healing and strengthens these structures.
It supports the body’s natural healing process and can often eliminate the need for invasive surgical procedures.
Who Should Not Receive This Treatment?
This therapy is not recommended for individuals with malignancies, as ultrasound may increase cellular activity and potentially accelerate the spread of cancer.
It should also be avoided near pacemakers due to the risk of interfering with their electrical signals, and in areas with total joint implants, as ultrasound can overheat the cement used to secure the prosthesis.
