Magnetic Therapy

Magnetotherapy is one of the most widely used methods in physical therapy, applied in the treatment of a broad range of conditions. It is a completely non-invasive and highly effective procedure that uses electromagnetic fields to stimulate healing and relieve pain.

Magnetic therapy uses electromagnetic fields that penetrate the skin and subcutaneous tissue, stimulating the body’s natural healing processes. These fields act at the cellular level, improving circulation and metabolism in the treated area. This helps reduce pain and inflammation, while accelerating recovery.

The electromagnetic field increases cell permeability, accelerates metabolism, and raises the levels of oxygen and nutrients in the tissue. By speeding up substance exchange at the cellular level, it promotes healing. As a result of magnetic field exposure, local circulation and oxygenation of the treated tissue are significantly improved.

Magnetic therapy can be applied locally to a specific area, minimizing effects on other systems in the body. It can also be administered through clothing, plaster casts, or braces in cases that require prolonged immobilization.

The goal is to accelerate recovery after injuries and improve the quality of life for individuals living with musculoskeletal conditions that interfere with daily functioning. This therapy is effective in treating a wide range of musculoskeletal disorders.

Indications for Magnetic Therapy

Bone fractures
Pseudoarthrosis
Osteoporosis
Degenerative joint conditions (such as arthrosis)
Inflammatory rheumatic diseases (rheumatoid arthritis)
Contusions, sprains, and strains
Contractures
Joint dislocations

Safety and Potential Side Effects

Magnetic therapy is a painless and completely safe procedure. It is important, however, to inform your doctor about any additional therapies you are undergoing, as well as any medical conditions or medications you may be taking.

Magnetotherapy procedures are intended for adult patients. In minors, treatment can be administered only with a physician’s explicit recommendation and after all contraindications have been ruled out. A medical consultation is also required for patients with implanted electronic devices (such as pacemakers), metal implants, a history of seizures, abnormal EEG findings, or those who have undergone neurosurgical procedures.

If the treatment involves wounds, pressure ulcers, open ulcers, or burns in the exudative phase, the area intended for magnetic therapy should first be properly covered, for example with sterile gauze.

When Is Magnetic Therapy Not Recommended?

Magnetic therapy is not recommended in cases of cancer, gastrointestinal bleeding, pregnancy, thyrotoxicosis, juvenile diabetes, pulmonary tuberculosis, or severe viral, fungal, or bacterial infections. It is also not performed on patients under the influence of alcohol or other narcotic substances.

How Do Patients Feel the Magnetic Field During Treatment?

Magnetic therapy is a painless and comfortable treatment. It can be performed through clothing and, if the treated area is immobilized, even through an orthopedic cast or brace. Most patients do not feel anything during the procedure, while some may notice a mild warmth or slight vibration in the area of application, indicating the activity of the magnetic field.

Personalized Treatment Plans for Faster Recovery

Each patient receives a personalized treatment plan focused on restoring function and reducing pain. The approach targets the root cause of the problem—whether it’s an injury, a chronic condition, or post-surgical rehabilitation. Based on your diagnosis, condition, and goals, we create a tailored plan that may include manual therapy, therapeutic exercises, physical modalities, and specialized treatments.

Our goal is to help you reach maximum results in the shortest possible time, using the most effective and comfortable approach. We’re proud to say that, thanks to our extensive experience, full dedication, and state-of-the-art technology at Dr. Rodić’s clinic, we are able to avoid surgery in up to 80% of cases—while achieving the same or even better outcomes. At the same time, we reduce the need for medication and help you restore your quality of life quickly and without invasive procedures. In fact, our patients tend to recover up to 30% faster.

In therapy, we use a variety of treatments—therapeutic modalities that are an essential part of comprehensive physiatric care.
