Kinesiotherapy (Therapeutic Exercise)

Kinesiotherapy is one of the most widely used methods of physical therapy, relying on therapeutic exercises and controlled movements to improve muscle strength, flexibility, and range of motion. This form of treatment is individually tailored to each patient and can be applied in the management of various conditions, including musculoskeletal injuries, chronic pain, and neurological disorders.

It is recommended for patients recovering from surgery to help restore mobility and reduce the risk of complications such as thromboembolism, respiratory infections, contractures, and similar conditions. It also plays an important role in maintaining the patient’s overall physical fitness.

After certain illnesses, surgeries, or injuries, muscles often become weakened, and joint mobility is reduced. As a result, the patient may experience pain and an inability to move the joint fully.

Kinesiotherapy is also recommended for back pain, joint pain, reduced joint mobility following injury or due to poor posture, as well as other musculoskeletal disorders.

Kinesitherapy is recommended for patients with:

Orthopedic conditions, including sports injuries, fractures, and post-operative rehabilitation.
Rheumatologic conditions, such as arthritis, rheumatism, and limited or painful joint mobility.
Neurological conditions, including muscular dystrophy and multiple sclerosis.
Post-traumatic conditions, including injuries sustained after serious accidents.

What Does Kinesiotherapy Look Like?

Once the diagnosis is established and a personalized treatment plan is created, a series of therapy sessions begins—each lasting between 30 and 60 minutes. During these sessions, the patient performs specific exercises under the supervision and/or guidance of a physiotherapist.
Various tools may be used during treatment, including exercise balls, resistance bands, machines, and weights.
Physiotherapists demonstrate proper exercise techniques, assist as needed, monitor the patient’s progress, and adjust the exercises to ensure optimal results and prevent injury.

What Kind of Exercises Are Done During Kinesiotherapy?

Depending on the patient’s condition and medical indications, a personalized exercise program is developed. The exercises are generally divided into two main types: active exercises, where the patient independently and voluntarily performs movements, and passive exercises, in which the therapist fully assists the patient in performing the movements.
Kinesiotherapy also includes stretching exercises designed to relax the muscles and improve blood circulation.
Strength exercises are also a common part of the kinesiotherapy program. These include isodynamic exercises, which involve increasing resistance during muscle contraction; isometric exercises, where the muscle contracts without changing its length; and resistance exercises, where the muscle works against an external force.
Kinesiotherapy also includes other types of exercises, such as respiratory exercises (to support breathing and lung function), proprioceptive exercises (to improve proprioception and balance), coordination exercises (to enhance movement coordination), and others.

What Are the Effects of Kinesiotherapy?

Kinesiotherapy is the most commonly used method of physical therapy, thanks to the wide range of benefits it offers patients. In addition to reducing pain and stiffness in the joints and muscles, strengthening the musculature, and relieving minor discomfort and tension, this method effectively improves muscle elasticity, enhances overall movement coordination, and helps preserve and restore normal joint mobility.

Kinesiotherapy also improves circulation, supports recovery after high-intensity physical activity, and helps restore the body’s energy. It has a positive effect on the respiratory, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, muscular, and nervous systems.

Personalized Treatment Plans for Faster Recovery

Each patient receives a personalized treatment plan focused on restoring function and reducing pain. The approach targets the root cause of the problem—whether it’s an injury, a chronic condition, or post-surgical rehabilitation. Based on your diagnosis, condition, and goals, we create a tailored plan that may include manual therapy, therapeutic exercises, physical modalities, and specialized treatments.

Our goal is to help you reach maximum results in the shortest possible time, using the most effective and comfortable approach. We’re proud to say that, thanks to our extensive experience, full dedication, and state-of-the-art technology at Dr. Rodić’s clinic, we are able to avoid surgery in up to 80% of cases—while achieving the same or even better outcomes. At the same time, we reduce the need for medication and help you restore your quality of life quickly and without invasive procedures. In fact, our patients tend to recover up to 30% faster.

In therapy, we use a variety of treatments—therapeutic modalities that are an essential part of comprehensive physiatric care.
